In the Zurich Unterland, close to Germany in the three-rivers landscape of the Rhine, Töss and Glatt lies the village of Glattfelden. In the middle of this green paradise you will find the area of the yarn-spinning factory Letten, which was built around the year 1865. Built at the time of the industrialisation in Switzerland, for 140 years the spinning factory by the river Glatt was the scene of a fast-growing textile processes, as well as an industrial and financial recovery. As part of the nationwide transfer of productions abroad, and the steadily growing competition for Switzerland at the end of the 1990s, one of the last spinning factory producing in Switzerland had to cease operations in 2006.
In the same year, the local entrepreneur Hans-Ulrich Lehmann acquired the entire area of the spinning factory, which includes not only the production area, but also several residential properties for the former staff of the factory. His intention behind it: he wanted to make something possible out of the impossible!
The convenient location near Zurich Airport and the unique, idyllic sourroundings of the former spinning factory presented great potential for a unique business and leisure complex. The riverside opened its doors in November 2009 after only 20 months of construction.
The big challenge of the reconstruction was to preserve the wonderful stylistic elements of the former spinning factory, as well as to offer a high level of service and facility.
On April 2, 2016, the hotel extension riverlodge opened its doors, celebrated with a large folk festival. Around 2,000 visitors flocked to the riverside to admire the 52 new lodge rooms.
Today, the riverside complex offers a beautiful 4-star hotel with 96 rooms, 3 different restaurants, an in-house bowling alley with 10 lanes, a spacious business area on three floors, an automobile showroom with exclusive vehicles and 18 rooms for meetings and events on over 12’000 square metres that can be used for corporate or private events in a variety of ways.
