Crime Dinner

Murder at the Riverside Hotel

No one would have imagined that something so gruesome could happen at the Hotel Riverside in Glattfelden: since late 2017, there have been several murders during the murder mystery dinner events at the Riverside.

But what exactly is a murder mystery dinner?
It is a theatrical evening punctuated by a fine meal between each act. As a guest at a murder mystery dinner, you get to enjoy both theatre and fine dining. Each event centres on a sudden murder in the play; nobody knows who did it, and the guests will be on the edge of their seats right until the end, guessing who the murderer might be. The play is performed by the FREISTIL theatre group (freistil-theater.de).

So what does the murder mystery dinner at the Riverside involve?
Choose from 6 different theatre themes:

Murder on the film set
Murder on a 75th birthday
Murder at the psychologists’ conference
Murder at the singles’ party
Murder on the wedding night
Murder at the company party

Murder Mystery Dinners can either be booked for a private event at Riverside or you can attend a public Murder Mystery Dinner event.

Our public murder mystery dinner events take place as follows:

Murder at film set

You are at the Riverside Hotel, where a film crew is currently shooting the crime thriller ‘Go to Hell, My Darling!’. However, director Rüdiger Emmerich has so far only made unsuccessful films and is constantly arguing with the arrogant and self-obsessed leading actor, Leander Laussmann. The shy supporting actress, Katja Niemann, is clearly miscast; the diva-like actress, Nina Voss, hates Leander; and the gay and sharp-tongued supporting actor, Detlev Ruck, would much rather play the lead role himself. Then one of the artists on the film set is murdered. But the incompetent police chief Dieter Drösel, who is investigating the murder, is constantly off the mark with his suspicions. So it remains unclear until the very end who the murderer is.

Murder at 75. Birthday

You are at the Riverside Hotel as a guest at a birthday party. The guest of honour is a grocer and strict patriarch who is celebrating his 75th birthday with his three children. His eldest son, Matthias, who also works in the shop, is his favourite child. To his dismay, his daughter Ursula is still unmarried, even though she is approaching 40. Stephan, his younger son, is trying to make a living as an artist and is struggling to gain his father’s approval. Then a murder takes place, and one of the family members falls victim to it. Because the others suspect one another, the somewhat eccentric Inspector Ms Vogel has to investigate, for which she consults the ‘vibrations of the room’. As the evening progresses, more and more family secrets come to light and you will witness some family dramas.

Murder at the wedding

You are staying at the Riverside Hotel as a guest at a wedding reception. The groom is a fabulously wealthy business owner whose parents died in a mysterious accident. He only recently met his much younger bride in a nightclub. The prudish vicar who married the couple is also a guest. The groom’s brother is a rocker who arrives late for the celebration, drunk. Then an assassination attempt takes place, claiming the wrong victim. And suddenly you find yourself in the middle of a dramatic murder mystery. It’s just as well that you’re served a fine four-course dinner in between. That gives you time to digest what you’ve experienced and discuss with the other guests who the murderer might have been.

Murder at the company party

They work for a company that manufactures condoms and are celebrating the annual staff party with their colleagues at the Riverside Hotel. The naive boss has only recently inherited the business and is clearly completely overwhelmed by the task of running it. The boss’s assistant is a miser who has imposed a strict cost-cutting programme and secretly pulls the strings. The head of HR, who is also a works council representative, tries in vain to resist the company’s cost-cutting plans. The pretty intern presents the new advertising campaign for the planned XXL condom. Then a murder takes place, and one of the partygoers falls victim to it. Does the rival company have something to do with the murder, or does the perpetrator perhaps come from within their own ranks?

Murder at the single party

You are a guest at a singles party. Holger Horn, the owner of the online dating site “Partner-Schiff”, dressed as a captain, sets the mood and leads some icebreaker games. His colleague Olaf Ochsenreiter plays “Cupid” and delivers love notes. Christina Helfering, who is tipsy but unattractive, and the pretty Sonja, two guests at the party, take a personality test to find a partner or receive dating coaching for their first date.

Murder at the psychologist convention

You are attending the dinner as a guest at the psychology conference. The organiser of the conference, which focuses on intelligence research, is the absent-minded Professor Dr Werner Reich. His attractive assistant, Dr Claudia Stern, has to make sure he keeps on top of things. One of the conference participants is the combative Dr Jürgen Geier, who disrupts the evening and would have liked to become a professor himself. During the presentation of a new and sensational invention by Prof. Reich, one of the scientists is killed. What initially looks like a tragic accident turns out to be an assassination attempt.
